Managers Blog
I thought it was about time I wrote another blog to give you an update on what’s been going on lately at Kings Lynn Town FC and give you the supporters an insight into the club.
We have now played 31 games in total and won 15, drew 3 and lost 13 and accumulated 48 points, I am pretty delighted on how things are going so far this season with this young local squad, we are in a good position and we are one of 12 teams that can finish in the play-off positions. Our goal has always to try and finish in the top half of the table and I am pretty confident we can achieve this but it would be a fantastic effort from everyone at the club if we was able to finish in the play-offs.
Instead of looking nervously over our shoulders like last season, we are s are now glancing upwards and hoping to gate-crash the play-offs.
We need to try and keep ourselves in and amongst it. We beat Redditch last week and tomorrow we have Dunstable, then Weymouth, Dorchester and Hitchin coming up soon. They’re all teams around us so our destiny is in our own hands and if we’re serious about making the play-offs we need to get a result at Dunstable.
We’ve beaten some very good teams at home and we need to try and do that away from home so we can keep ourselves in the hunt. If we lose we’ll be five points off the top five and then you’ve got to win three or four games before you can even think about talking about the play-offs again. For me every game between now and the end of the season is a cup tie and we will be ready for the challenge.
Dylan Edge made a return for the youth team on Wednesday and will feature for the reserves tomorrow against March Town after missing out the last few games to a chipped bone in his big toe. Toby Hilliard will definitely miss the trip tomorrow with injury to his ankle.
The recent good form of Matty Cassellan has earned himself a contract with club and this should be tied up in the next few days, it is important that we try and tie these good young players at the club like we did with Dylan Edge a few months back. These lads are the future and will hopefully be with us for a few years yet.
The Reserves are still doing very well and are on course for a top six finish again, and I have to say what a fantastic job Robbie and Marc are doing with the young lads and hopefully we might have a final to look forward to in May at Carrow road in the Norfolk Senior cup. They will have to overcome a very good side in Dereham Town on March 1st at the Walks. Hopefully we will have a good crowd to cheer on the reserves, they have had some great gates all season and the general interest in all three teams this season has been very pleasing to see.
The youth team had 155 spectators against Wisbech St Mary on Wednesday in their top of table clash which they won 2-1 and puts them on course for the league title. Was a very proud moment for me personally when my son Danny got the winner from a freekick in the 90th minute.
It’s a great achievement from John Stocker and Ross McNeil if they manage to win the league in their first season and the clubs first time back since reforming. It’s also encouraging to see several of these lads also getting game time in the reserves regularly and in time hopefully we will see some of them go one further into the first team.
The relationship I have with all the footballing staff is something I am proud of and I don’t mind admitting that we really have improved these relationships between us all this season and work closely and communicate most days, I think this is one of the reasons that the club has made good steps this season and is something we will keep on improving.
Was great to see Mick Wright get his lifetime achievement award at the Sports Awards which was presented at the Corn exchange, unfortunately I was unable to attend but Neil and Robbie went and said it was the highlight of the evening. To think Mick played over 1200 games for Kings Lynn is quite incredible and something which will never be beaten.
We have decided that Mick will automatically go straight into the hall fame at the end of the season but we will still introduce two more legends as well, I know Robbie said we have had an incredible response from all the supporters and the Poll will be underway in March and on the website.
We will be holding a Kings Lynn Town Fc golf day soon and this will be held at the Royal Gold Course Hunstanton, I will let everyone know more details next week.
Finally I would like to thank all the businesses that have supported us this season and we now have a match sponsor for every home game until the end of the season. As you can see also around the ground we have had several more sponsor boards put up, I can’t thank everyone enough for the support I have had since doing the job full time. We still have plenty to do and improve but if we all keep moving in the right direction and being positive I am sure we will get better and better.
Thanks Again
